Single Parenting Tips

The United States is home to approximately fifteen and a half million single parent. They are on the lookout both for information to improve their lives and for someone who understands their situation, dealing with children, bills, child support custody issues, and friends' reaction to their new single status.

Single Mother

Whether we like it or not, single motherhood is a fact of life. It is difficult to accept that as a single mother, you alone, have the responsibility of bringing up children in this crazy world.

Single mothers rely on informal advice from one another when they face difficulties parenting their children. Society depends upon the success of these women who are single-handedly supporting their families and rearing their children.

If you want to be successful as a single mother, you'd better first accept the fact that you are, in fact a single mother.

Single Father

While women are the primary caregivers for most of the children, there are also a significant number of single fathers who are having custody of their children. According to statistics, one out of six single parents is a dad. These single fathers are discovering what single custodial mothers have known for a long time, raising kids while trying to make a living is hard work. They are often unaccustomed to caring for the children's needs and are unfamiliar with the child care routine, just as some women are unfamiliar with managing their finances. But as fathers, they can and will learn, given the chance.

You'll find that single parents, in general, have a lot more similarities than differences when it comes to gender. Single fathers approach parenting jobs much the same way that mothers do.

The fact is that single parenting is a demanding and overwhelming task, especially if the other parent is not actively involved in the child's daily life and activities.

Effect On Children

Children who have both parents have a leg up on children of single parent. Two-parent home is giving the child much contact with both parents as much as possibly. A single parent has to understand that children have the right to love both parents.

Single parent must be careful to protect their children's innocence. Learn to take extreme measures to keep arguments away from the kids. There is no reason to discuss with friends and family in the children's presence why you cannot stand the ex.

Stepparent

It is estimated that fifty percent of divorced parents with children in the developing world will remarry; another high percentage will move in with a partner. Second marriages fail at a higher rate than first marriages. It is predicted that more than half of step relations will break up.

When you marry, you acquire a package: some good, some bad, some wonderful, some horrible. In a second marriage with children, it gets even more complicated if your children and significant other can't get along. Sometimes it depends on the age, usually the younger the child is when you enter their live the easier to make the connection. Also relationship with former spouse can affect the development of the relationship as well.

Working Single Parent - Single Parent Finance

If at all possible, find a job close to home and close to where your children attend school. Involve your children in your job in whatever ways you can. Let them visit you at your workplace.

But remember to leave work at work. Make the hours you spend with the kids count by giving them your full attention and doing things together that you all enjoy.

Let your school-aged child know about the restrictions your job will put on your participation in school events. Let the child select in which activities you will be able to attend.

Partner with other single mothers who work different shifts so you can bail one another out. From time to time, show your helpers how much you appreciate their helps.

Have backup plans if your children lose or forget their house key. Give a key to an elderly neighbor you can trust and can count on to be home.

As a single parent you should be proud of your status. Do not develop an inferiority complex. Remind yourself that there are advantages to being a single parent: no one to answer to, fewer responsibilities, and more choices. You should always be the best you can be and remind yourself that you're unique and special.
